Naturally beautiful. From its rise as a trickle, high on the heather covered fells at the top of the North Pennines, to the top of the whin sill rock at Forest-in-Teesdale, the River Tees steadily grows and gathers pace. Then it suddenly and spectacularly drops 70 feet. |

High Force is reputed to be the highest unbroken fall of water in England. You'll feel its awesome power as you begin the approach. There's the peace and quiet of the countryside, but something else - an air of anticipation. As you begin the descent down the gently sloping, well-maintained path, a muffled rumble reaches your ears. You can enjoy the pretty woodland walk which twists and turns with a different view every few yards; but still the waterfall escapes you. Then the rumble turns to a roar; you can imagine you feel the spray on your face and there's a natural earthy aroma. You peer through the trees and there it is. The sight astounds you. Postcards and photographs can't portray the sheer size of the vertical wall of water...the ceaseless roaring sound...and the almost tangible atmosphere of the place. High Force commands your respect. Its power is its beauty, but it must be treated with care. Children should be supervised at all times. |

High Force is open for your enjoyment all year. The waterfall is spectacular throughout the seasons. Charges apply for parking and admission to the waterfall.
